Ugly, annoying weed? or most beautiful flower in the world?
Spring has come. (Or is trying to come.) The pretty tulips and daffodils are appearing everywhere. So is the little yellow, not-so-attractive, and annoying weed/flower - the dandelion. I don't like to see them appear in the nicely mowed and trimmed green lawn. It's annoying that as soon as you dig it up and get rid of it, five more have sprung up somewhere else in the yard. But........
Yesterday, I received my first dandelion flower of the season from Ethan. Brian was outside with the kids and Ethan ran in the house a few times to deliver the little yellow flowers to me. Every year the kids are so excited to see them make their appearance. And somehow, to a mother, the little ugly weed becomes the most beautiful flower in the world because it's been given to you by your children with the most innocent, child-like, Christ-like, unconditional love. I guess it's a natural instinct in children to give their mothers flowers and I can't help but smile and love them even more when I am presented with a handful of dandelions.
So, now when I see a yard full of dandelions I think "Here comes the love!", and I cherish it.
I love your post. Just today we walked to the school to pick up Caleb and came home with a dozen dandelions - they are cherised, even though they are now brown on the shelf, and never where "pretty" to beginning with. But we had to stop every time one of the kids spotted a dandelion. :)
ReplyDeleteKind of a metaphor for life, don't you think? It's all about perspective as to whether something is a weed or a thing of beauty. Thanks for the post!
